King Abdullah meets heads of state participating in latest Aqaba Process round

His Majesty King Abdullah received, in separate meetings, Rwanda President Paul Kagame, Democratic Republic of the Congo President Felix Tshisekedi, and Mozambique President Filipe Nyusi. The participants in the latest Aqaba Process, which encompasses East Africa, discussed bilateral relations and ways to continue collaborating on issues such as economics, defense, tourism, and trade.

King Abdullah meets heads of state participating in latest Aqaba Process roundThe discussion also covered the importance of maintaining regional and international efforts to counter extremism within a holistic approach that encompasses military, security, and ideological elements. Recent developments in the region and internationally were also discussed.

He also met with Madagascar’s Defence Minister, Leon Rakotonirina, and the commander of the US Special Operations Command, Gen. Richard D. Clarke, in Aqaba, to discuss bilateral ties and ways to enhance defense cooperation. His Majesty launched the Aqaba Process initiative in 2015 with the aim of enhancing coordination and information exchange between regional and international stakeholders to counter radicalization holistically.

Over the past few years, meetings of the Aqaba Process initiative have been hosted outside of Jordan by Albania, the Netherlands, Nigeria, the United States, the United Nations, and Singapore, in partnership with the Kingdom.
